We had a very long day but it was a lot of fum. We started out the day at Jewel Cave and took a tour through the cave. It was quite different from Wind Cave because it is a wet cave where all the formations are the ones you are familiar with that are formed from dripping calcium carbonate saturated water.

We then headed out to Hill City to take a ride on the steam train from Hill City to Keystone and return. It was a lot of fun. The weather was excellent. This photo is of the steam engine blowing down the boiler. This procedure ejects some water which has concentrated scale minerals to help keep the boiler clean.

We ended up the day in Deadwood, South Dakota. This is the town where Wild Bill Hickok was shot in the back by Jack McCall while playing poker. The poker hand he was holding has become famous as the Dead Man's Hand - black aces and eights. As part of our tour of Deadwood downtown we watched a couple gun fights on main street and went to a rather tongue in cheek play about the trial of Jack McCall.

This part of South Dakota is saturated with motorcycles right now. The famous Sturgis Rally starts Monday. Deadwood is only a few miles from Sturgis. There are thousands of bikes, riders and babes all over the place. Apparently everybody is presenting their "bad" side enough to be cool. It is fun to watch the motorcycles parade up and down the street. There are LOTS of late model Harley Davidsons rodding around. Tomorrow we do a bit more in Deadwood then head west into Wyoming in the opposite direction of Sturgis.
