Jumper

My favorite spider.

Granted, it's not a long list. :-)

In fact, I think this little guy is the only one on it. But I do actually like the jumpers. I
think it stems from reading a fantasy book ages ago (Castle Roogna, by Piers Anthony), where one
of the main characters is a jumper spider. The spider is sitting on a magic, animated tapestry in a castle,
when a prince uses a spell to enter the world of the tapestry. The spell (more or less) shrinks the
boy to the size of the people in the tapestry, but the spider is pulled in full size, and becomes a
giant spider who helps the boy with his quest.

Speaking of spiders in stories, there's also Charlotte's Web.
She wasn't a jumper, but let's not talk about that. ;-)

I'm more or less ambivalent and tolerant of spiders because of their portrayal in these two stories,
which is actually pretty cool. Some of them still give me the willies, though, but I do let them
out of the house if they are in my way.

This fine fellow was on the underside of a wheelbarrow, and about as big as the tip of my thumb.

I'm having a bear of a time with macros with this camera, but considering it's not really suited to
the style of macros I can shoot with my other cameras, I don't feel too bad - just determined to figure
out what sort of macro shots _will_ work. I think I can get good results, but it's just going to be
different, and the allowance for mistakes is a lot narrower.
