We traveled from Sioux Falls to Wall, South Dakota and hit some tourist traps on the way. We saw the Corn Palace in Mitchell which was interesting, we stopped to see a Lewis and Clark keel boat which wasn't really a boat, and we stopped at Wall Drugs. Wall Drugs has an interesting story (wiki it) but it is a king size tourist trap. Lots of shops, a few interesting historical photos and lots of shops. If you are going on I-90 in South Dakota, give it a try. Don't go out of your way to see it.

When we moved across the country in 1963, we drove through South Dakota. The most memorable thing about driving in that area was the ubiquitous and widely-scattered signs advertising Wall Drug. In spite of the overload of advertising, we did not stop to see it.

It is definitely not a joke. It is the only game in town, however. The street in front has been modified to accommodate as many parked vehicles as possible. Also lots of parking within a block. This place is genius.

I've seen Wall Drugs posters since I was a kid.
I always thought it was some kind of joke.
