In early summer of 1994, we were walking in the greenbelt area near Shirleys Bay, by the Ottawa River. I saw a little grey cat following a couple ahead of us. When I asked them if it was their cat they said no, but that they'd seen her in the same area for at least four weeks, always following people, and meowing, and then heading back into the bush. We all agreed that someone had probably dumped her there. I knew we couldn't leave her like that, so I called and out she popped, meowing up a storm. I swooped her up and got back into the car and off we went. That was 19 years ago. We took her to a vet who said she was about a year old, perhaps more. Yesterday morning she had to be euthanized, after a long life of 20+ years. All yesterday, all last night, I kept thinking I heard her. When you live with another creature for 19 years, you miss them horribly when they are no longer around. She was a feisty little cat, a character as all cats are. Rest in peace little Cleo.
