Cleo

In early summer of 1994, we were walking in the greenbelt area near Shirleys Bay, by the Ottawa River. I saw a little grey cat following a couple ahead of us. When I asked them if it was their cat they said no, but that they'd seen her in the same area for at least four weeks, always following people, and meowing, and then heading back into the bush. We all agreed that someone had probably dumped her there. I knew we couldn't leave her like that, so I called and out she popped, meowing up a storm. I swooped her up and got back into the car and off we went. That was 19 years ago. We took her to a vet who said she was about a year old, perhaps more. Yesterday morning she had to be euthanized, after a long life of 20+ years. All yesterday, all last night, I kept thinking I heard her. When you live with another creature for 19 years, you miss them horribly when they are no longer around. She was a feisty little cat, a character as all cats are. Rest in peace little Cleo.

A beautiful and touching story. I think it is sad that so many people passed her by, when all she wanted was someone to love her. I am glad she had such a long life in your loving home. Voted.

it's always heart-wrenching to lose an old friend...unfortunately, some other species have shorter lifespans, that's the hard truth...hopefully memories of previous times are some comfort..

I'm so sorry to hear of Cleo's passing. I'm sure she enriched your life as much as you enriched hers, and am certain you'll remember her looking as lovely as she does in this photograph.
