Gaston Lachaise was born in
Paris in 1882. In 1906, having married an American, he emigrated to the United
States of America and began work for an academic sculptor in Boston and later
served as an assistant to sculptor Paul Manship in New York City. He became
well known for his portrayal of female nudes like Standing Woman (bronze) 1932.
