The Rötteln castle above the Lörrach of suburb of Haagen in the hamlet of Rötteln, referred to as Castle, is located in southwestern of Baden-Württemberg. The fortress was one of the most powerful in the Southwest, and today is the third largest castle ruin in Baden. The Castle played an important role in the history of the city and is considered an important landmark of the city, but also the surrounding city.

The partially reconstructed ruins of Rötteln Castle is seen perched on a wooded height (422 m ü. NN). The castle is located on a mountain spur of a steep eastern slope in front Wiesental.
