Here are two sets of photos, one of male Vesper Bluet damselfly and another of the female. One photo in each set was taken with natural light and the other was taken with my ring flash. I found two small populations of these guys on this day and both were found in heavily shaded areas well up the trail away from the waters edge. It seemed like these guys preferred the habitat there compared to the sunnier, open habitat right along the water's edge where most other damselfly species where on this day. I started getting curious about it so I looked all around to see if I could find any near the water where the lighting would be better for photos - I would have liked full sun on them - but I wasn't able to find any. I was only able to find the two populations (and a third single in another location) up in the shadier (and mosquito infested) higher ground away from the water. It seemed like they stopped right at the edge of the deep shade and went no further. The low lighting there presented a problem for getting photos in many cases so I used my ring flash in a couple of places to supplement the other photos not sure which would turn out better.
