In 1976, my two best college friends and I spent six weeks in a red Ford Pinto just like this car!
Hard to believe. No air conditioning, only AM radio, with a Sears roof-top carrier and packed with camping supplies, we covered thousands of miles.
If you were not driving, we rode down the highways of America with our feet out the windows!
Wore out a set of tires, rubbed paint off the roof with the carrier, but had the time of our lives and are still friends to this day.
Among other sites, we saw the Rockies, the Grand Canyon, and California.
It was the first of five summer trips "out West" for me after falling in love with the Rockies on this 1976 trip.

It was odd to see a 1976 Ford Pinto in the antique car show.
Is a Pinto really collectible? This one has only 29,000 original miles on it and the original paint job.
