This Blue Tail Skink was a tiny Critter no bigger than 1 1/2 inches - from nose to the tip of his blue tail - when stretched out

From what I've heard, if you grab a skink by the tail, the tail with come off & then later regrow. The colorful tail encourages predators to grab the tail; rather than a skink's body.
However, grabbing a tail is something that I'm not going to ever try; not even if I were as fast as a skink. VBG. These guys are usually too fast for me & my camera; even in daytime.
Luckily, this one paused long enough for me to fire off a couple of shots before he disappeared into the black night.
The camera had been "nearby" only because I was considering photographing the full moon; which I never did.

I used a common Flash Light - no camera flash - to get this shot in the dark. Not exactly studio lighting, but it worked. The ISO was 8000.
Plus I opted for manual focus to get extra close to magnify this itty bitty skink. The shot was hand held.
