It was only 8 years after the eruption. Unfortunately we didn't get a very good view because of the fog. It was cold and wet. Actually the only rain/moisture we encountered on the whole trip, because of the huge drought that year. On the back of this photo I wrote:
Mt St Helens 4800 ft mark (treeline.) Only about 1000 more feet up of elevation! (Two miles to go.) July 13, 1988. "The hike from hell."
I'm not sure why I wrote that because it was actually over 3500 feet up in elevation after that point and more like 3+ miles to go. I don't remember much other than it was very foggy and wet, not fun and we couldn't see a thing. I visited again 25 years later and couldn't have asked for more perfect weather!
