This fungus-like plant grows in rich, moist woods in mid-summer, and very common in our area. Despite resembling fungi, this is a true flowering plant (now) in the Ericacaea family. It is a parasitic plant, as explained here: "it is parasitic, more specifically a myco-heterotroph. Its hosts are certain fungi that are mycorrhizal with trees, meaning it ultimately gets its energy from photosynthetic trees." (Wikipedia) Photographed in Larose Forest.
