The "Marschiertor" was one of the eleven gates which provided access to Aachen. Built during the 13th century as part of the extrenal city encircling wall, Marschiertor is one of the two gates that still stands in Aachen. One could imagine that several centuries ago, cannons poked out of the turrets and sentries scanned the country side for signs of invaders.
