Cuban Tody

Todus multicolor

One of the most ubiquitous Cuban endemics, this species' distinctive rattle-like vocalisation is a feature of nearly every one of Cuba's woodlands. We had almost inumberable encounters with this photogenic little bird. Todies are endemic to the Greater Antilles, with the four other species being found on Jamaica, Puerto Rico and Hispaniola. However, the fossil record indicates that todies were once somewhat more widespread than this, as they have even apparently been discovered in France...!
