This shot of John, as the previous, is a good portrait but perhaps using the onboard flash would have been helpful in such circumstances to light the face a little more - at the distance, even without any diffusion (like hanky layer over) should be only just strong enough to lighten his features. However, you always also have to consider the flash sync speed of course.
