My favourite shopping area goes from Tha Phae Road through to Warorot Market. There is one store which is run by a group of older women and the upstairs is presided over by a somewhat grumpy older man. Setting aside his grumpiness, I went there often, and miss it ; the fabric there was delightful and suited my purposes (cheap sarong cottons amongst others). I liked the women who ran it. In the back they sold orchids, in the front, all kinds of fabric, and strip embroidered pieces. Close by, again on an upstairs level, there was a café. Downstairs was a hippy-clothing haven. The upstairs café looked down over thin clay tiles to the street. A lane way leads down to the Hmong/hill tribes market, filled with bright colours and indigo fabric. I really miss this strip of shops. Those near Tha Phae Road are swish tourist ones. My favourites are closer,to, or within Warorot market
