An adult peregrine falcon soars over the Niagara gorge in search of prey. One falcon disappeared below me toward the rock face of the gorge. Although I could not see the bird, I soon saw the aftermath as blood stained feathers drifted up, carried by the updraft, over the boardwalk railing where I stood.
Normally I try and spend a couple of days observing the falcons and their aerial displays which is awesome to see up close. This year I only had 2 hours, yep barely 2 hours unfortunately. I should have brought binoculars. The above documentary photo was taken about 10 minutes after arriving at the Falls. I'm sure photo ops would have been really good earlier in the day.
To make things worse, while out of town I received a call telling me there were 5 baby eastern screech owls in someone's yard.
