IMG_8088 Tarantula

Around Work, Texas Canyon, Dragoon, AZ

Climbing up the outside wall to get away from me :) I took some pictures and then put him/her out
in the field.
I love that I get to see lots of Tarantulas during Monsoon season; more than any other time of the year.
Did you know: Tarantulas have retractable claws on each leg, like cats.
Since falls can be so dangerous for tarantulas, it's important for them to get a good grip when
climbing. Though most tarantulas tend to stay on the ground, they sometimes climb trees or other
objects. By extending special claws at the end of each leg, a tarantula can get a better grasp of
whatever surface it is attempting to scale. (About.com Insects)

The most fascinating of creatures! Amazing something that big can stick to a wall, even with retractable claws.

Outstanding capture of this creepy crawly Carol! I don't think that I'd be too happy to see one of these climbing an exterior wall on my house.... ;)
