A juvenile Baltimore Oriole "practices" eating serviceberries after being taught by his mom.

We planted this native shrub about 11 years ago and it is a mecca for birds when bearing fruit.
In addition to the orioles, we have seen Black-capped Chickadee, Grey Catbird,
American Robin, Eastern Bluebird, Brown Thrasher, Eastern Kingbird,
American Crow, Cedar Waxing, American Goldfinch, and Purple Finch eating the fruit.
If you like birds (and you should!), plant one!

We call those Saskatoon Berries up here and they make awesome pie. Of course, we leave our berries for the birds as well. :-)

Great photo! Not sure how service berry would fare in the desert though!

You are so right! We have one at the Fletcher Wildlife Garden and it is a hive of activity with all sorts of birds and squirrels, especially chipmunks. V

The light is wonderful, and great to see your visitor.

Very nice composition. A ring of leaves, and our subject placed according to the rule of thirds.
