not far from Stonehenge,
on the Salisbury plains, and even closer to the village of Westbury
in Wiltshire there is a “hill figure” depicting a white horse. It’s “lying”
on a hillside just below the site of an Iron Age “hill fort”. It’s origin is
unclear but some claim it commemorates King Alfred’s victory at a
battle in 878 (the battle of Eđandun) although this is not confirmed.
