The CNN sign sits atop the 3 Columbus Circle, which started in 1923 as the 3-story neoclassical Colonnade Building on 1775 Broadway with a strong foundation and structure for high rise. It was completed in 1928 as the General Motors Building with its corporate sign on top. The 2008 renovation covered it with a modern style glass curtain. Although it is one block south of Columbus Circle, its owner renamed it to 3 Columbus Circle to market its boutique office spaces.

The CNN studio is actually located in the Time Warner Center on the right.
