This species is a quite frequent visitor to flowers in my garden, from which it obtains nectar.
You couldn't call the bird pretty! The bare head is normal - hence the name friarbird, but the yellow on the head is not and is probably pollen from flowers.
Maybe the significance of the bare head is to avoid getting pollen stuck on head feathers.
