Quito, the capital, because of its elevation has a temperate, and somewhat cool climate. Less elevated, Baņos, further south, is balmier. There are hibiscus growing, seemingly wild, and other plants I interpret as tropical (it is after all very close to the equator). Eucalyptus and wattle trees (acacia) proliferated on this slope. Elsewhere in Sth America the eucalyptus was planted and was flourishing. i just hope that the problem of wildfires does not occur there, as it does in California and ubiquitously in Australia.
