This was a very strange aurora. There was a faint glow in the north, images showed it to be green but it was too faint with the eye to see that color. There was also a faint band of red that ran across the celestial equator. But most notable were these spots in the southeastern sky, bright and colorful. After heading home I was able to see the southern aurora from the city, with all the city lights around, and even photographed it from my back yard. Extremely unusual and unprecedented. It was truly amazing even though the photos are rather limiting in structure. The bright star in the image is the planet Mars). This aurora was visible in the lower tier of states.
