Four-spotted Skimmer (Libellula quadrimaculata)

Found several of these in Larose Forest. There were scores of Beaverpond Baskettails, a few Dot-tailed Whitefaces, Chalk-fronted Corporals, and these guys, one of the most beautiful when they are fresh and golden, but turning brown with age.

we used to see a lot of "mosquito hawks" as we labeled all of them back in Louisiana.
Though we have a small pond, we don't see too many up here in rural north Texas

The weather is truly wacky this year when Canada is getting skimmers and migrant songbirds before New Jersey!
