Just 10 minutes or so later while I was still sitting and enjoying them, a "skirmish" broke out behind our BBQ grill and Ginger was having a yowling/hissing "verbal fight" with a feral cat that was right underneath the porch. I immediately went over and started grabbing kittens and putting them in their box. When I got all I could find, there were only 6 there, not the 8 we HAD had just moments before! They never got past me or went off the other end of the deck, so the only possibility is that the feral cat must have reached up along the slight gap where the deck boards didn't quite reach the house, and yanked two down between that crack. Several times over the next hour (while I was still at home) Ginger went under the house and had cat fights with the other cat, but never came back with either of her babies. So sad!! This little guy was one of the casualties, and the other casualty was the kitten our church friend's son had picked out.
