Delightful smile: vendor

Northern Thailand

This was about ten days before I was due to leave Thailand for a while. There were pieces of fabric i would have liked to have bought, - including one I can see on the hanger in this photo, but I had already been teased enough about my acquisitions, and besides, I didn't have room in my baggage to take therm home, nor any surety that I would be able to store them in Thailand. So, regretfully, I had to leave them behind. Now, I would love to have them. I am stuck in Tasmania where fabric is expensive. For example, I bought two metres of a thin cotton (imported from India) for 35 Baht a metre. 30 Baht was at that time one US dollar and the Aus dollar was a little higher... Here, I can buy that same fabric for $15 a metre. I miss my favourite fabric shops and the workers in them. One place was my special balm; it was operated by women and one particular woman, although she spoke no English and I had a very few words of Thai, I like the feel of her, she made me feel comfortable and welcome, not just another 'walking wallet'.
