Ding Darling NWR
These beautiful spiders are huge with the females being up to 25 mm or more in length. They are a tropical to subtropical species found in the Southeastern United States. The web is up to a meter in diameter and they are usually found in heavily shaded hardwood or palm forests. The smaller spider seen in some of these photos is most likely a male golden silk.
