This is a tiny frog with a loud booming voice. The males are vocalizing their need for a mate. You can hear them calling in early March until the end of May. The sound is amazing. When you approach a pond the sound stops immediately. You have to stand absolutely still and wait for the concert to resume. These tiny frogs can be identified by a "cross or x" on the male's back.
