Another Rare Visitor - Yellow-throated Warbler

This guy has been on my list forever! Well, he's been on my list to add to my list.
This is a bird normally found south of New York.

It was first reported at a local State Park on 4/29, and a friend of mine also saw it on the 29th.
What were the chances it would still be there today? I took a half day off work, and when we
arrived, we were disappointed to find construction/cleanup going on in the campground area where
the bird was reported. We parked about 500' away and thought we could hear the bird singing. We
noticed the state park construction crew packing up about 3:30 (banker's hours!) and as they left
they slowed by us. A woman emerged from the first vehicle and said they were going to be locking
the gate, so we had to leave. So close!

She suggested we park in the main lots and walk in. It was a long drive and a nice day, and I
wasn't about to give up so easily. We walked about 3500' to get to the spot and could hear the
bird singing. I played his song on my phone (no harm since he or she is not nesting yet) and he
flew over our heads. The bird proceeded to give us good looks and full song for the whole 45
minutes we stayed. I was also able to photograph Blue-gray Gnatcatcher
and Northern Rough-winged Swallow.

Wow! Fantastic find and your perseverance paid off for sure! I'd love to see this species. I think one turned up in Point Pelee recently (?). Excellent shot of it singing its little heart out! V

Marvelous composition and joyful mood. ~V~
(I'm not saying you birders are crazy, but you are an alien species for sure. Good on ya!)
