The girl was taught well by her mother; be polite, answer when spoken to, but don't take candy from a stranger
or let him get too close. There was nothing I could do to get her to come closer and tell me about her life in the pueblo.
Finally, she either got smart or bored with me and walked away.
I used a new process in painting this picture. I first glued a layer of sand to a lightweight board,
then painted over with a pale beige undercoat. So as I painted the image, I got a wonderful texture
which emulates the adobe walls and sand dirt. Even got an interesting texture in sky.
It's fun to experiment.
