Blending In!

This is a beautiful red-tailed hawk. It flew right overhead when I was driving down off Skinner Butte, and landed in a nearby tree. I jumped out of the car to try to get some shots. Because of my vision problems, I had trouble seeing it since it blended in with the tree so well. But I managed to get a half dozen pictures before it flew away. This is one of them. Not too bad for a Coolpix P510!

Wonderful shot with the P510.

It's a beauty no matter what kind. Did you see the red tail? I ask because it looks a lot like a Red Shouldered, which are smaller than Red-Tailed. The face and head look a lot like Red shouldereds do, but it could well be a juvenile red tailed. Again, it's a beauty.

Looks like it got dunked. Great capture. I love all the stuff going on with that tree, i.e. vines. Linda S

Coolpix P510 - the best camera. Cuz the best camera is the one you have with you.

Good capture!

Very nice capture of a bird that is often hard to find. It is a Redtail. Here is a shot
I got of one a few years back.

I think it is a Red-tailed Hawk Dark Morph. Nice grab, Vern.
Judith Barnett19-Apr-2013 19:42
I am not sure either but it could also be a Cooper's Hawk. I am not sure if I see red in the tail under feathers but it could be just the light and the obvious camouflage.
joseantonio19-Apr-2013 19:38
Not easy to spot with those camouflage colors.V.
