The clothing worn in the desert areas of eastern Morocco differs from the jalabas (a hooded garment that usually has a zipper in front) that we see on the coastal plain. Since I'm not familiar with this manner of dress I put out a plea to my fellow Peace Corp Volunteers to name the black capes that appear in this picture. The names I got back are "lizar," "mlhafas," "amlhaf," "trafrouite" and "niqab" - based on which town or village the PCV is in. Names aside, I'm told these are a single piece of cloth that covers the body as well as the head and face when correctly applied, and they don't have hoods. That they cover the head has to do with how the single piece of cloth is wrapped.
