I arrived at the jury room very early this morning. I left quite early from the house because I wasn't sure how long it would take and I wanted to get there before the height of rush hour. This was a jury summons to Houston Municipal court; traffic fines and the like. I did get called and I did get selected. I was thrilled because this is the closest I will ever get to Perry Mason.

I have actually served on juries before. I always find it interesting. In this particular case I had a revelation. The defendant was accused of driving without his seat belt fastened. Punishment was a minimum of $25 to a maximum of $50. I could hear the other jurors saying "You gotta be kidding me, a jury trial for that??" But I got to thinking that one of the strengths of our constitution is that anybody accused of anything has the right to a jury trial. Man I hope those dumb bastards in Washington don't screw that up.

Then I got to thinking about another thing. In the United States we have a situation where capital punishment of an innocent human being can be carried out without even a trial. This has occurred 48 million times since statistics started to be collected. It is abortion. They call it "pro-choice", but remember that choice is to carry out a death sentence on a human being that didn't even get a trial. Frightening. This is scary. Wait until euthanasia is treated the same way.

p.s. No matter what you do, iPads take shitty photos.
