Tallulah Gorge

The closest thing Georgia has to the Grand Canyon.

North East of Atlanta, in the hills of the Appalachian Mountains, lies this beautiful gorge in which they say that in 10,000 years will probably be the next Grand Canyon. With over 2,100 stairs to climb it is an exhilarating and an exhausting hike. We did this in August. Needless to say we were ringing wet when we got back to the car. But it is a beautiful place to see.

Here are more photos from our visit to Tallulah Gorge:

Most are SOOC so they're not perfect by any means.
Enjoy!

600 steps.... I'm in fairly decent shape but I'd be stopping more than once to rest. Paul

I used to have a bunch of Tallulah Gorge photos on my Pbase page. I'll have to put them back up because there are LOTS more from there that I'd like to share but I'm only allowed 3 entries. :(

There are a couple places with stairs that go all the way down to the river and there is a waterfall at the base down there as well. We rested down there before our long hike back up about 600 stairs.

This is a great way to start us out. This looks like a beautiful spot. Can you hike down to the stream and hike along it?
I would also guess it is quite pretty in the fall.
