Three Years Later - Dave Gaines

Horse Flats Campground at 5800 feet asl. This patch was at the NE edge of the Station Fire, which burned 209 square miles in August, 2009.

Thanks guys. It's like a haircut. It always grows back. I hope the pines grow back soon, but it may not be in my lifetime. I've been seeing lots of new growth on my favorite hike, closer to home. She's looking at a woodpecker making holes up in a tree. All the dead wood may make for good insect hunting. There were several woodpeckers flying about this spot.

Big problem with forest fires. We suffer them too in summer. Still, everything regenerates...

I am sure that's trees don't grow fast at that elevation but at least the beginnings of a new forest are there.

The new growth is good for the forest, but those trees don't come along very fast. When your grandkids come to this place at your age; it might just have a full forest there again.
