At thought, Little Five Points, Atlanta, Georgia, 2013

Caught between a pickup truck and a barbeque shop, this man appears to be lost in his own thoughts. While he rests his arm on the truck, he does not seem to be aware of it. He ignores the presence of the shop as well. His mind is elsewhere. We feel his boredom, and perhaps a touch of weariness as well. We may be reduced to observers, yet we can relate to such human values as these. The photograph asks us to imagine what he might be thinking about, and gives us a chance to find our own answers.

Weary? Exhausted? Both are human values. We can relate to either. It is a question of degree, and the viewer can decide which is the case here. There is no correct answer, Merri -- each of us will feel his state of being here in our own way. He uses the truck for support. His face is turned into the shadows, and as you note, eventually the truck will drive off, and he will find another place to rest.

I see more than just a touch of weariness in this man; he seems downright exhausted. I have no idea if the truck is his or someone else's, but it only adds to the feeling that this respite is brief because at some point, that truck will drive off. I also like how the sign mirrors the tail-lights and the man's blue shirt prevents him from fading into the also rather worn and tired background.
