the vertical iron wheel is attached to the overshot mill wheel and drives the large vertical shaft of the horizontal upper wheel from which most of the mill stones etc are driven - see 'next' items in gallery

It was far too crowded to put up a tripod and in any case the whole place shakes, so everything is handheld then relying on the high ISO and VR (when remembered)
