This is called a Saban tree. It is enormous. It is on the property once owned by Sam Jefferson, the great great great grandfather of Thomas, the 3rd president of the United States. The Jeffersons were wealthy slaveholders in the Caribbean from the early 1600s. The original house is long gone. Fires, dampness and termites the size of cats took their toll.
