Black swallowtail (Papillio polyxenes) male, newly emerged

This is one of two black swallowtail butterflies I reared over last winter and which emerged in spring, 2012. This one has left the aquarium where he was reared and is sitting on a cedar tree while drying his wings prior to taking off.

Nothing like drying off that excess moisture before you head out into the blue. What a pretty guy, he is.
