Suddenly Mitchell's Pass joins a much more substantial road. You guessed it. I am now standing on
the original route for the Great Western Highway. The Pass enters from the right out of shot and
of course the official highway once continued in that direction. In 1926 the highway was rerouted to
run directly the way we are presently facing. Now, we see that the 1926 surface has been torn up
and returned to nature. "The Great Western Highway" (the name this road is STILL called) presently
ends right here in a turning circle where there is parking, picnic areas and the commencement for
several nature walking tracks.

The Great Western Highway (so named) that we last saw ends just east of Glenbrook where it turns
into the M4. Officially there is now a gap in the "highway" between Glenbrook and here.
