Rainy Day

It rained all day today or more importantly, it rained constantly throughout my lunch hour, which is the only opportunity I had of taking
a photo today as I was working late.
You know all those helpful features about how you shouldn't let rain stop your photography - well they are a load of rubbish unless, of course, you can walk around between convenient showers, catching wonderful reflections in puddles, or spend hours looking out the windows of steamy cafes, getting pictures of the people walking past under unbrellas.
In real life, rain just means rubbish photos like this taken through the windscreen just as the lights turned green.
There was another more picturesque junction that I thought of getting another shot, but typically the lights weren't red so I had to continue along my way.

You still managed to get a ecent shot on a rainy day, love all the raindrops on the screen making this image abstract.

Tell me about it!!!! I gave up photographing Budapest one very rainy day; Jola had a raincoat for her camera and she just kept on shooting out in the torrential downpours! Needless to say, I have purchased a raincoat for my camera now.
I like the "Monet" feeling you've captured here! :)

if we are trying to put a feeling, and a sense of the moment, into images, then a dreary day is as valid as any other weather..the photos can turn out rather impressionistic, as here..still the bland skies are a problem, and of course the risk to camera gear too..I can sympathize though Mairead, these same wet conditions are the near daily reality here all winter long..

Nice job of focusing on the raindrops rather than the scene. Very effective!

A great "rainy image". We can really feel the mood of the moment as if we were sitting in the car. Great job. V.

I know you must be absolutely fed up with the weather you are getting and I know it is extemely hard to get a photo in it, but I like this :-) Such a change to what we've got.
I especially like the shadowy person crossing the road.

Rain + night = excellent reflections, and these ones are none too bad either. Remember that it's a PAD, you won't get ones that "hit it out of the ballpark" every day, but they can still be valuable documents (hmm, I chanelled Atget there without meaning to) reflecting your "slice of life" on that day, and this one does that well.

Very nice to look out your rainy window.

Still there is a lovely mood to this. V

I like it too. It shows real life.

I wouldn't even take my camera out in this. I agree with you. It's not an opportunity. It's an impediment. But you managed to get this wonderful image anyway. I love rainy windshield filters and their textures. V.

ain't that the truth!

I agree with Ann, and a good example of what it's really like trying to make photos in dreary weather like we have here, too.

Full marks for ingenuity!
