Moon and Jupiter Mosaic.jpg

Miami, FL

Moon, Jupiter and its moons

Jupiter 387 million miles from Earth, and Moon 252 thousand miles from Earth at time of imaging.
Apparent diameter of Jupiter is a tiny 47.31", while the Moon has an apparent diameter of 29' 39", almost 38 times larger in the mosaic.

Io was transiting the face of Jupiter at the time of capture.

Mosaic of Moon and Jupiter, angular separation of 43' 41" at time of exposure. Moon imaged through Stellarvue Nighthawk piggybacked on 10" LX200. Jupiter (color) enlargement obtained at same time, prime focus at f/30 through LX200 using ToUcam 840K Pro. SXV-H9 used with H-alpha and Lumicon DSF due to 94% phase of Moon and extreme brightness/glare. Assembled mosaic in Astroart, keeping true angular separation intact. full exif
