NGC 6124 cluster area in Scorpius, with dark dust clouds obscuring the Milky Way stars behind.
This object is 1830 light years from the Earth, and was discovered by Abbé Lacaille in 1751.
Equipment used: Takahashi refractor FS-60CB f/4.3 (focal length 255mm),
Orion Atlas EQ-G equatorial mount,
Atik 383L+ CCD camera (at -20C temperature).
Total exposure: 19 minutes (19 X 60 seconds).
Field: approximately 3 x 4 degrees.
This is my first successful attempt with the current equipment.
No filters were used: photons arrived at the CCD chip from 350 to 1000 nanometers ( i.e. ultraviolet, visible and infrared light).
Image obtained from my apartment window, under severe light pollution (magnitude 3 skies).
No fancy image processing, except darks/flats calibration and light pollution gradient removal (Iris software).
Still a lot to learn! This is only a register of my first steps in astrophotography.

A Via-Láctea na constelação de Escorpião, com o aglomerado de estrelas NGC 6124 ao centro.
Este objeto fica a 1830 anos luz da Terra, e foi descoberto por Abbé Lacaille em 1751.
As regiões escuras são formadas por poeira que obscurece as estrelas.
Equipamento usado: refrator Takahashi FS-60CB f/4.3 (distância focal 255mm),
montagem equatorial Orion Atlas EQ-G , camera CCD Atik 383L+ (temperatura de -20C).
Total da exposição: 19 minutos (19 X 60 segundos).
Campo: aproximadamente 3 x 4 graus.
Esta é a primeira foto com o atual equipamento.
Não foi utilizado nenhum filtro, assim a luz que chega no chip CCD vai de 350 a 1000 nanometros, i.e., ultra-violeta, visível e infra-vermelho.
A imagem foi obtida pela janela de meu apartamento, sob severa poluição luminosa.
Não foi utilizado nenhum processamento de imagem sofisticado, exceto a calibração usual por darks e flats, e remoção do gradiente de poluição luminosa (software Iris).
Ainda há muito o que aprender, mas fica aqui o registro do esforço.
