This site is very windy, winds of 80 kph are common and it has been designed to work with that in mind. The walls give full protection to the telescope and the wooden deck floor has a 9mm gap between the boards. This not only allows for the air pressure to equalise within the building and stop the roof being sucked off but it also helps stabilise the wind disruption within the structure when the roof is open.
