Found this rather large beetle (large for a click beetle that is) resting on a leaf. It was nearly 1/2" long. I find click beetles very difficultto ID but thanks to Blaine, I have learned that it is in the genus Melanotus.
Click beetles get their name from the clicking sound they make when they right themselves from an upside down position. Mostly they feed on pollen, or in many cases, on aphids.
