Looking westbound towards the tower at Carolina Junction. The Virginian signals seen in this photo were replaced in 2008, and between 2015 and 2019 the switch was removed and the track realigned. Visible down the next mile and a half of track are the signals at Hoover Avenue and Rodgers Street, along with the South Norfolk interlocking. The Virginian was originally double track from Sewell's Point to Carolina Junction until the Eastern Branch Bridge suffered fire damage and was reduced to single track in the 1970's. Double track now exists only between Thole Street and Tidewater Junction.
