This was taken with a Fuji camera designed mainly for forensic photography. It doesn't have an Infrared filter over the sensor like most digital cameras, so it records both visible light and into the infrared spectrum. By placing an R72 filter over the lens, most of the "visible" light was filtered out and this image was captured using only the reflected infrared light. It was then desaturated in Photoshop and a Topaz filter was applied to achieve the final effect.

Thanks, Paul, Michael and Najinsky, for your comments.

Najinsky - I think the problem is that compositionally the image is boring. If this had been taken with a regular camera with no special processing, it would be just be plain "blah." There is no specific center of interest, nothing to draw the eye into the photograph. The only thing it has going for it is the special effect. The question is, "Is that enough?" And the answer depends upon the person viewing it; for some it is, and for others it's not. - ken

I love the snowy white trees and dark trunks you get with IR-BW, and the topaz filter binds many of the elements (barn, chairs, pots, slide, etc) together with a repetition theme, while I really like lots of the detail, for some reason it isn't quite working for me as a whole and I really don't know why. Thought provoking, which is excellent in itself! Regards, -Najinsky

That's certainly an interesting way of taking and processing a photo. A worthwhile experiment. Regards, Michael

I've long thought that one of these days I've got to get me a Infrared filter, good ones are expensive. I've even considered sending in my camera to have it converted but since I'm a one camera guy...... Paul
