The Pazzi Chapel adjoins Sta. Croce and is enclosed in a beautiful courtyard with a cloister and small museum in the refectory.
The small, elegant and spare chapel designed by Filippo Brunelleschi, has minimal decor,
with Brunelleschi's "signature" gray pietra serena stone outlining the blind arcades and the architectural elements, providing visual interest.
Since the chapel was used as a chapter house for the Franciscan monks, a low bench encircles the room.
Malcolm is shown here to give a sense of scale of the structure.
Under the patronage of the Pazzi family, the Chapel was a gift to Sta. Croce to be used as a chapter house and private chapel for the use of the Pazzi family.
It was built between ca. 1442-1461, and is considered a great masterpiece of early Renaissance architecture, and arguably Brunelleschi's finest work.
