Padrao dos Descobrimentos is a monument to Portuguese exploration of the world. It is located on the waterfront in Belem, a district of Lisbon. The monument is a testament to the vision and fortitude of Portuguese explorers including, Prince Henry the Navigator and Vasco de Gama, among many others. The Portuguese explored the coasts of Africa, India, the South Sea Islands, the Caribbean and South America in the 1400 and 1500's. It is quite impressive.
