This massive Renaissance lock on the monumental central doors to Sta. Croce caught my attention.
The lock, which is about 30 inches high, is located at floor level, and operates long iron bars that extend to the ceiling and down into the floor which can just be seen in the picture
The ironwork itself is artistic as well as a functional part of the security of the church, and a masterpiece of the ironworkers guild.
